The Lighthouse Story
The name Lighthouse carries deep personal meaning.
When I was in graduate school, I heard the story of the starfish — the story about making a difference for the one in front of you, even when you can’t change everything. That story stayed with me and became something I held close while working with deeply traumatized children in residential treatment. Many of the children I worked with had experienced profound instability and loss. I learned that sometimes what mattered most was simply being one safe, consistent person in their life — even if only for one hour, one day a week. That presence mattered. That connection mattered. And it shaped the therapist I became.
Years later, as my own children grew up, I noticed my role shifting. I was no longer their home base in the same way — I was becoming their lighthouse: a steady presence in the background, offering guidance, support, and a safe place to return when needed. That image resonated deeply with both my personal life and my clinical work.
Lighthouse was created as a return to the heart of why I entered this field:
to be a safe person, to offer steady support, and to create space for people to grow, heal, and reconnect with who they truly are.
Today, that mission extends not only to clients, but also to the clinicians I work alongside. I believe deeply in supporting new therapists as they develop their voice, confidence, and identity in this work. Just as our clients deserve steadiness and encouragement, so do the professionals who are learning to hold space for others.
At Lighthouse, we believe everyone has a rich story. Our role is not to direct your path, but to walk alongside you — offering clarity, compassion, and support as you find your way forward.
